Just a Newfoundlander living in Saint Pierre and Miquelon

LIFE
BEFORE MOVING

I am originally from Corner Brook, Newfoundland but I moved and lived to the St. John’s area for 12 years. During those 12 years I got wrapped up in the busy city lifestyle of just go, go, go. Always following the crowds of people just going to work and coming home.

I worked in the animal field; first in shelter medicine for about three years, followed by an eight year career in veterinary medicine as a technical assistant. During those eight years I had the privilege of growing my career to have so much experience and meeting some amazing people along the way. I worked about five years in emergency/icu department, about two years in the surgery department and before moving, over a year in the internal medicine and oncology department. My patients were everything to me and building a relationship with their owners as someone they could depend on during their pet’s care was so important to me.

Sometimes when you look at your life, you know that changes were going to have to come. Meeting my partner meant that one day one of us was going to have to make a decision to close the gap in our long-distance relationship. I felt so fulfilled in my career, that I knew as hard as it was to walk away, it was time for a new adventure. The other side of this was leaving my family and friends which was the hardest part, but I knew I wasn’t going to be far from them.

Home is where our story begins, and every departure is a new chapter.

AFTER
MOVING

I’m currently working with a cleaning company that is ran by a wonderful local woman that she started. I spend my time at work going from business to business getting to know my clients and getting to speak with them which is helping me learn and grow in the French language. These people take time out of their day to encourage me to not be shy when speaking in French which is a big help to me. I honestly couldn’t ask for better people to work around daily.

I’m finding that joy again in the little things that I missed out on with the fast pace city lifestyle. I lost my way a little, which I think is normal when moving and completely shifting your lifestyle. I knew I had to find something to light that spark again for me. This is why I started my facebook blog Let’s Sea SPM. It has helped me to light that spark again; being able to make connections again like I once did with my animal patients and their owners, except now I’m meeting amazing local people, their businesses and tourists.

No, I was not born and raised here. I was a tourist just like you are, I was travelling here for months and seeing the things you will see on your trip. Finding the beauty of Saint Pierre and Miquelon from an overview, as someone from the outside. The added bonus is having a partner who was born and raised here. This makes us a dynamic duo of local and tourist giving a whole new perspective on tourism here.

Let’s Sea SPM facebook blog will always be a safe space; a space where people can discover something new, but also maybe discover something within themselves that can help them grow in their own lives. Maybe a new lifestyle change, maybe a new career, maybe even moving somewhere new. I hope that my honest and open space can show you that yes, changes in life are scary but sometimes one door has to close for another to open for you.

Today, I’m enjoying the slow-downed lifestyle. In a place I feel safe and free to explore. I’m getting more time to myself to enjoy the things I once loved doing but because of the busy life style I couldn’t; spending my time with friends, family, hiking, riding horses, enjoying the delicious cuisine and the list goes on.

I look forward to sharing my adventures with you and thank you for your interest in joining my journey on my facebook blog Let’s Sea SPM.
