Explore the Beautiful French Territory
Just 25km from Newfoundland

The island of Saint Pierre is part of the French territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Saint Pierre is the capital of the territory, home to just over 5,000 people. The island is built around the Saint Pierre harbour where you have constant views of the water.

Although Saint Pierre and Miquelon is 4,000 kms away from mainland France, it is still so rich in French culture and language. The cultural history of this place is so interesting to explore. A town that started out as a fishing community and then turned to the prohibition. You will have the opportunity to see and explore buildings that are still standing that were once used to store thousands and thousands bottles of liquor during this time period. The Prohibition started in 1919 and continued until 1933 where a law was introduced allowing importation of foreign whiskies and other alcohol while the rest of North America could not access any.

Once a tourist myself, the thing I have enjoyed even now as a resident is the relaxed environment — there is no rushing around like living in a city. This is something I encourage tourists to really enjoy. Make sure when you book your trip you have enough time to relax, enjoy and travel to both islands.

The climate here is very similar to Newfoundland’s capital city, St. John’s. We see some beautiful sunrises and sunsets but you should pack a rain jacket and sweater in your suitecase just in case. We enjoy our time outside no matter the weather.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon is the perfect destination if you are looking for a getaway for a few days. To access the island it is just a plane or a boat ride away.
